How to Migrate from WhatsApp App to WhatChimp Business Account

Migrate your existing WhatsApp number from the app to the WhatsApp Business API

Updated 16 June 2026

Want to use your existing WhatsApp number with WhatChimp? The process depends on which app you're currently using.

Using the WhatsApp Business App? You don't need to delete anything. WhatsApp now supports co-existence, which lets you use the same number on both the Business App and the API at the same time. See our full guide: WhatsApp Co-Existence: Use Your Business App and WhatChimp Together.

Using regular WhatsApp (personal)? Co-existence is not available for personal WhatsApp accounts. You'll need to delete your WhatsApp account first, then connect the number to WhatChimp. Follow the steps below.

Back Up Your Conversations

Before deleting, save your chat history.

  • Open WhatsApp on your phone
  • Go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup
  • Tap Back Up Now

Back up your chats before migrating

Delete Your WhatsApp Account

  • Open WhatsApp on your phone
  • Go to Settings > Account
  • Tap Delete my account
  • Confirm your phone number to complete the deletion

Open Settings then Account

Select Delete my account

Confirm your phone number

The number becomes available for the API within about 3 minutes. Any messages sent to your number during this time will be queued and delivered once you're connected.

Connect to WhatChimp

After deleting, follow the setup guide to connect your number: How to Connect Your Phone Number with WhatChimp.
